Spring is here, and with spring comes plenty of yard work! There are a variety of ways to easily get your lawn clippings, twigs and branches, and other yard waste collected curbside.
Option 1: Bags and Stickers
Yard waste can be placed in Compost it! bags or store-brand bags with a green Compost It! sticker attached. Bags and stickers are sold at many local grocery, home improvement, and convenience stores. Visit our Retailer webpage for more information.
Option 2: Cart Service
If you are setting out several Compost It! bags each week, you might find a Compost It! cart to be a better option. The 96-gallon cart can hold equivalent to three yard waste bags.
The annual price for Compost It! cart services is $122.
If you are new to requesting cart services, once you complete the form below, a new cart will be delivered with a subscription sticker within 10 business days of your order. This sticker will need to be renewed annually to continue cart services.
If you are renewing your subscription sticker for the 2023 Compost It! curbside collection season, stickers will be mailed within 5 business days.

New carts with the sticker are delivered within 10 business days, and renewed stickers are mailed within 5 business days!
Cities participating in the Compost It! program include Altoona, Bondurant, Carlisle, Clive, Des Moines*, Grimes, Johnston, Mitchellville, Norwalk, Pleasant Hill, Polk City, Runnells, Urbandale, West Des Moines and Windsor Heights.
*Yard waste is picked up year-round in the city of Des Moines.
