The holiday season is filled with gatherings, celebrations, and good cheer...and that means a lot of empty bottles and cans piling up! While you can recycle those soda cans, wine bottles, and sparkling water containers, consider these tips for redeeming and recycling your holiday empties instead.
1. Sort and save your cans and bottles. As you celebrate, designate a bin for deposit-eligible bottles and cans. Sorting as you go saves time later. Look for the "IA 5¢" deposit label, typically found on the container. Pro tip: Encourage your guests to help by placing clearly labeled bins in visible areas during gatherings!
2. Redeem for cash or donate to a good cause. Turn your empties into something valuable! Bring your sorted containers to one of our Metro Redemption Centers. You can choose to:
- Take the cash: A quick way to offset your holiday spending.
- Donate your refund: Support a partnered organization by scanning a barcode to direct proceeds to their cause. It's a great way to give back this holiday season!
3. Remember the environmental benefits. Recycling your holiday empties isn’t just good for your wallet or your favorite organization, it’s good for the planet, too! Recycling diverts waste from the landfill, conserves natural resources, and helps create a more sustainable future.
4. Spread the word! Make can & bottle redemption part of your holiday tradition and encourage others to do the same. Share your experience on social media, tag us, and inspire your friends and family to follow suit.
Keep the holiday spirit alive by giving back to our community and the environment. Whether you’re cashing in your bottles or donating to charity, your efforts are a gift that keeps on giving.
