What do you do with items like bleach, antifreeze, or bug spray when it’s time to get rid of them? These hazardous items are not your regular trash, but that doesn’t mean it’s difficult to dispose of them in a safe, smart way!
A variety of household hazardous waste can be dropped off by appointment at our Metro Northwest Transfer Station in Grimes.
Expanded Hours!
We’re currently offering a range of expanded hours for hazardous waste drop-off at this location. The current hours, listed below, may shift as we try to find the right balance providing a safe, smart, and accessible disposal option for residents.
Hours:
Monday: 2:00 – 6:00 PM
Tuesday: 11:00 AM-2:00 PM
Wednesday 11:00 AM-2:00 PM
Thursday: 7:00 – 11:00 AM

Don’t want to make an appointment? Drop materials off at our Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-Off in Bondurant or have your household hazardous waste picked up just outside your door with our houseside collection service.
Accepted Materials
Common household items like bleach, rechargeable batteries, oil-based paints, lawn chemicals such as fertilizers or weed killer, old motor oil or gasoline, and energy efficient lightbulbs (CFL) are all accepted for free.
