Searching for a reason to get outside this summer? Adopting a stream might be just the activity you're looking for!
Through our Adopt A Stream program, you and a group of friends, family members, or co-workers can select a section of stream, creek, or river in Polk County to keep clean. Adopters commit to cleaning their area once per year, but you could clean it more if you want to!
Healthy Streams, Healthy Communities
Trash like bottles, plastic bags, and tires frequently end up in our rivers and streams through stormwater runoff, strong winds, and littering. No matter how small a piece of trash may seem, it can have a big impact on the health of our community when it’s not disposed of properly.
Adopting a waterway not only leads to a cleaner and healthier environment, but it’s also a great way to build teamwork, give back to your community, fulfill volunteer hours, and explore the watershed you live in!
No Experience? No Problem!
Our staff will ensure each group has the resources necessary to make an Adopt A Stream cleanup a success. From cleanup checklists to supply and disposal arrangements, we are ready to assist!
