As seen on WHO 13, by Andy Fales.

You can’t have a big city without a place to take your garbage. But while most cities have their own landfill, or many smaller ones, back in 1969, Polk County decided to create one big one, and they put it way out on the edge of the county on the little two lane highway to Pella.

Well, the metro has grown exponentially since then and so has the Metro [Park] East Landfill. 1,100 vehicles a day come through here. It’s filling up fast so Metro Waste Authority has to constantly be working on ways to cut down on what goes into the landfill.

Andy Fales has the story from Mitchellville and RVTV.
